Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIPS GALORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!- It was with great honor that the Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate was able to gift eleven $1,000 scholarships to aspiring college amputees this spring! The recipients are selected through a review process based upon their submitted applications. Each student must have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 and be an amputee. The number of scholarships and the amount given are based upon the availability of funds through the donations by our many supporters. Each scholarship will help a young adult achieve a better future for themselves. We, the Peg Leg Pirates, are merely the vessel your dollar passes through to make that difference in their lives. For that, we are truly grateful.
Again, thirteen, how awesome is that!!

From Trey:

The scholarship has been very helpful in offsetting the cost of my college education.  My parents had a college savings set up for me but a large amount of that money was used for medical bills and for my prosthetic cost.   I had an automobile accident wen I was sixteen and due to the severity of my injury opted to amputate my left leg below the knee.  I have not let my amputation slow me down.  I was able to return to the football field for my Senior season just 6 months after my amputation.

99 Scholarships and Counting

Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate, Inc. is pleased to announce Scholarship Fund awards.  The Fund is used to assist with the educational expenses of college and trade/technical school students who are amputees.  The members of the Krewe believe that education and training provide that additional step to success.

The students have attended schools in a number of states including Florida, Massachusetts, Colorado, Ohio, Rhode Island, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, North Carolina and Jamaica.  All those awarded scholarships maintained at least a “B” average during their high school years.

Application Process

Deadline for application is March 15 for the following school year.  During April the Board of Directors will discuss the recommendations made by the Scholarship Committee and awards will be announced in June with funds dispersed in July.  The number of awards and the dollar amount available each year will be solely dependent on the revenue from our fundraisers.
