PIRATE KREWE INVADES LAND O’ LAKES. Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate invaded the Deer Creek Sporting Clays venue in Land O’ Lakes for the Third Annual “Get On the Good Foot” Benefit Shoot. One hundred forty (140) shooters joined the over 30 Krewe members and 30 volunteers from the Zephyrhills HS Jr. ROTC commanded by Sgt. Smith. The ROTC provided a Drill Team Exhibition and Color Guard and the National Anthem was sung by Ms. Kaylee Jaggie. The Krewe raised more than $24,000 with all net proceeds to be used by the Krewe for the benefit of amputees and their families. Platinum sponsors representing Larkin Contracting Inc., RingPower, Cardel Homes and T-Con, Inc. were joined by Col. Roland Tiso, Jr. (Ret.) for a pre-shoot breakfast which was catered by King’s Cuisine. During the delicious meal Col. Tiso spoke with the Platinum Sponsors about his experiences in the Middle East and answered questions about current activities. All agreed that it was a great way to start a day on the Sporting Clay course. Then 120 men and women took to the course with guns (and safety always on their minds). And then it happened…THE RAINS CAME. With everyone off the course and in the large tents, conversation was lively while the weather reports were being closely watched. As door prizes, 50/50, and Chinese Auction Items were being announced the shooters all enjoyed a fully catered lunch provided by Mike’s Catering. It was unanimously agreed that the lunch was great and the weather was simply not going to cooperate. The decision was made to put the guns away, and plan on returning next year as the charity focus of the Krewe is one that everyone can support.
