A Year in Review – 2020-2021

Category: Amputee News

A Year in Review – 2020-21 This past year tattooed upon our hearts and minds the unthinkable and the unforgettable. We were forced to face daily struggles, gripping fear, paralyzing grief and yet we still hung on. We found ways to celebrate what was once considered “the normal” with new eyes. We opened our hearts to embrace each other, lend that helping hand so desperately needed by those trying to survive in a world filled with uncertainties. It has been a year of difficulties and unprecedented times and yet our Krewe held fast. Hard as it has been, we survived and along the way we were able to provide the needed help and support to our community and amputees. Our Krewe was stricken with heartbreak this year losing two Pirates, Mama Fran Reiter, and Lisa Esposito. Both had been with our Krewe for years and the void left from losing them affected many of us. They supported our Krewe and our Kause unselfishly and will always be remembered as having a heart of gold to those fortunate to have known them. Although the year was different, our Krewe managed to find a variety of ways to help those in need during the year. There is always a need for financial assistance to provide prosthesis and we met that need by giving $15,000.00 in funds for 3 individuals. Although we were not able to present the check directly to the recipients and the clinics this year, the result was the same; we […]

I Shot the Sheriff

Category: Amputee News

I Shot the Sheriff… Not really; but, there were a lot of clays shot at the Peg Leg Pirate 15th Annual “Get on the Good Foot” Sporting Clay Shoot! Once again, our Krewe was graciously hosted by Fish Hawk Sporting Clays Range located in Valrico on February 15, 2020. Although the day started off chilly, hot coffee and a hearty breakfast got everyone ready to go out and give it their all. The sound of shot guns echoed from morning till noon as the 43 teams made their way through a divided course consisting of eight 50 round stations each. By lunch that Florida sun was high in the sky and the beer was cold! After bellies were full and thirst was quenched, the award plaques were given to the top teams/shooters and the team that had the most fun. There were also 3 full grog chests raffled off, 2 guns raffled off (1-hand gun and 1-AR15 style), numerous silent auction and additional raffle items won and the 50/50 ticket winner pocketing over $2,000. This is the largest fund-raising event our Krewe puts together each year to continue our mission of helping amputees and their families. Through the years our event has continued to grow with this year being the largest ever. I’m proud to announce we were able to place over $32,000 into our charity account! We are so grateful to the companies and individuals that continue to donate year after year. It is through your generosity, your […]

“3’s a Charm”

On February 26, 2020 our Krewe, in co-ordination with Shriners Hospital for Children, presented the first of three trikes to be donated this year. The recipient was a 6-year-old “Shriners Kid” named Laney and this was her first tricycle ever. Riding around the room that sweet little face didn’t stop smiling for a second! Thank you to all that help make our generosity possible.

On January 17, 2019, Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate, presented a check to Tampa Bay Prosthetics in the amount of $3,000 to benefit Mr. Pascual Vasquez. Mr. Vasquez is a first-time recipient. The team at Tampa Bay Prosthetics reported that Mr. Vasquez has adapted to his new prosthetic extremely well and is eager to continue making strides in progress. He and his daughter were so very grateful to our Krewe for helping to make his quality of life better. Thank you to all of those that have given generously to make a difference in the lives of each amputee we help. Let this merely be the start to a year filled with new beginnings for our amputees!

The Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate came together on May 11th to make a trike presentation at the Shriners Hospital in Tampa. The recipient was an adorable 2 year old boy named Kenneth Parker. It is always amazing to see their little faces light up as they begin to peddle around the room. Your heart skips a beat and, at that moment, you’re reminded why our Krewe does what it does, support amputees and their families. That feeling never grows old. It is very rewarding to know that, through the generous donations of our supporters, our Krewe is able to make a difference in a child’s life. With a grateful heart, we thank all those who contribute to make our mission possible.
